Jeff,
My father and I don’t share this wonderful game, but what we do share is made even more special when reading a tribute like this one for your father. I just saw this piece and remembered that losing someone is most challenging when the first wave of condolences ends. As a result, here’s hoping that folks keep reading it and keep reminding you of how fortunate you and your father were to have each other, and of how important it is to send thoughts and prayers long after one’s passing.

I loved your tribute to dad. He was a very special person, no matter how much pain he was in he never complained, he always had a smile on his face and told some bad joke. He was clearly our favorite uncle, and he will always be in our hearts.
Saw mom in Florida 2 weeks ago, she looks well and is getting herself together. She’s going to be fine.

knowing your dad early on – I often thought about how much he appeared to love this game every sunday, yet we only cared about games with bigger balls. I also had the oppo to simply ride in the cart, playing just a few holes with my dad at the end of his life – happy memories but ones I wished I had experienced more often early on. It was good seeing you again.

Hi Jeff. I don’t know if you knew that I played with your Dad on L.I. and in Fla. No matter how he played, he never complained, and he laughed at my terrible shots. Sorry to hear about your dad, Jeff, but appreciate your loving tribute. I know how you feel because I’ve been there, literally: doing the same sad task of cleaning out my folks’ place–in Delray Beacn. I opted to take one of my dad’s old putters home with me, and it came in handy at a timely moment in a family tournament. Help from above, one hopes. Be well, and savor all the memories.

I’m sorry for your loss.

My dad’s ashes were scattered by a family friend who has the same wishes for himself when he gets to the last putting green: at the sixth hole of the Whiteface Inn golf course, which you wrote about long ago.

I’m sure that wherever your dad is now, he’s got a lot of folks to make up a foursome.

Jeff, what a beautiful story and tribute to your dad. I can really relate to it on so many levels. I’m going to call my dad and talk to him. He’s 83, lives in Florida, loves golf – plays at least twice a week and is a cancer survivor. Thank you so much for sharing! May God bless you and I’m so sorry for your loss.
